Chico, the Pope's Cat --- Ĉiko, la kato de la Papo

(English) Chico, the Pope's Cat Chico, the cat of Pope Benedict the 16th, is 7 years old and became famous because it was reckoned that he was worth 200,000 euros, more, then, than the 188,000 euros that the old car of Cardinal Ratzinger received at auction. Chico has light fur with brown stripes, and doesn't live in the Vatican, but in the house of the family of Rupert and Therese Hofbauer, only a few meters from the house which the then-Cardinal built during the sixties in Pentling. Many in Rome remember the "Cat-loving Cardinal" who walked through the alleys of the medieval quarter, encountering his cats. Another unfailing stage was in the courtyard of the palace of the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith: Ratzinger, during free moments, stopped to speak in the Bavarian dialect with the many cats who came running to listen to him and to get something to eat.

"Chico, la kato de Benedikto la 16a, havas preskaŭ 7 jarojn kaj ĝi fariĝis tiom fama, ke oni kalkulis ke ĝi valoras 200.000 eŭrojn, multe pli, do, ol la 188.000 eŭroj de la malnova aŭtomobilo de kardinalo Ratzinger, vendita antaŭ kelkaj tagoj per aŭkcio. Hela felo kun brunaj strioj, tiu kato ne loĝas en Vatikano, sed en la domo de familio Rupert kaj Therese Hofbauer, je malmultaj metroj el la domo, kiun la tiama kardinalo konstruigis dum la sesdekaj jaroj en Pentling. En multaj en Romo memoras la “kardinalon katamanton” kiu promenante tra la stratetoj de la apuda mezepoka kvartalo, renkontis siajn katojn.
