An actress from the American soap opera 'General Hospital', Shell Kepler, died Feb. 1st. She played the role of nurse Amy Vining from 1979 to 2002.

In the General Hospital storyline, Amy Vining was the adoptive sister of Laura Vining Webber. Laura married Luke Spencer in the most watched soap opera wedding ever. Amy was a nurse at the hospital known for gossiping.

Shell Kepler was born October 5, 1959. She began trying out for acting parts before she was old enough to drive. Her given name was Michelle Alaine Kepler.

I have been watching General Hospital since I was a child and have many fond memories of the performances of Shell Kepler. May she rest in peace!

In Philadelphia a collection of hair samples from US Presidents is on display. The hair is from the first 12 US presidents. But it inspired artist Dan Lacey to create the above cartoon, which speculates about a more modern collection of presidential hair. :-)

Lacey says:

In a similar contemporary exhibit I'm guessing that former President Bill Clinton's most historically appropriate hair would garnish the most interest, but perhaps not considering how many people have already had a peek.

After his death, the famous Brazilian football (soccer) player went to heaven. Because even in heaven he didn't want to rest without doing anything, he started a football team, in which there were many other talented players.

Now, word of this got to hell, and the chief devil invited the heavenly team to a championship game. Although nearly every famous player was in Pele's heavenly team, and though hell's team had only second-class players from an American prison team, hell won the match 10 to 1.

Why? Simple--- all the referees were in hell!

Post sia morto la fama brazila futbalisto venis en la ĉielon. Ĉar li ankaŭ en la ĉielo ne povis resti sen fari ion, li tie trajnis kreis futbalekipon, en kiu ludis multaj aliaj iamaj talentoj.

Auralia's Colors: Book Review on a Depressing Day * Libro-Revuo por Deprima Tago

Today is the most depressing day of the year. Some lady on a news program said that. So it must be true.

Why is it so depressing? Well, in my case:
1. The Green Bay Packers football team lost the game and won't be in the Superbowl.
2. The expensive goat died.
3. My dog played with a chicken. The chicken didn't die, but I had to bring her in the house. I hate having a chicken in the house.
4. I need to do laundry. I hate laundry.
5. Today is the first day of the Christian Science Fiction and Fantasy (CSFF) Blog Tour, and I haven't finished reading the book.

But then, Auralia, the main character of Auralia's Colors by Jeffery Overstreet, had a rather depressing beginning.

As an infant, she was lost or abandoned near the river. Two old thieves, working off their debt to society by working outside the walls of the city, find the child--- lying in a depression in the ground that turns out to be a monster's footprint.

The thieves smuggle the child to the huts of the Gatherers--- those who live outside the walls of the House Abascar.

This review may continue tomorrow. There may be giant lizards involved.....

The pope during his Christmas speech gave a short greeting in Esperanto. "Blessed Christmas and prosperous New Year" were his words. It is the custom for the Pope to give greetings in many languages for Christmas.

A group of Esperanto-speakers were in St. Peter's Square and raised signs which spelled out the word "Esperanto". This was visible in the television broadcast.

Terri's Day Announced -- Groups Call for Special Remembrances of Terri Schiavo

NEW YORK, Dec. 10 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation and Priests for Life have jointly announced the establishment of the "International Day of Prayer and Remembrance for Terri Schindler Schiavo, and All of Our Vulnerable Brothers and Sisters" ("Terri's Day"), to be observed each year on March 31, the date of Terri's death.

The purpose of the day, the groups explained, is to foster education, prayer, and activism regarding discrimination against the disabled, and advocacy for people in situations similar to what Terri and her family faced.

Fr. Frank Pavone said, "Those of us who were with Terri will never forget her life and her death. For the sake of all the vulnerable, it is critically important that those who never knew Terri likewise remember the lessons that God taught us through her."

Suzanne Vitadamo, Terri's sister, adds "No family should ever have to witness what my family witnessed, watching a loved one slowly dehydrate to death. We want Terri's day to remind us all that persons with disabilities are never burdens and should be treated with nothing but our unconditional love and compassion."

In the early weeks of 2008, educational and prayer materials will be released that can be used by parishes, disability and pro-life groups and all communities to observe Terri's Day.

The Harry Potter series of books has been translated into many languages around the world. There is an effort under way to create an Esperanto translation of the books.

There is a web site available in English and Esperanto about the project. You can sign a petition there to support the idea of the Harry Potter translation.

I love the Harry Potter books, and would certainly like to read them in Esperanto.

En "Google" grupo 'Brazilaj Katolikaj Esperantistoj, Vitor Luis Rigoti dos Anjos donis preĝo al Nia Sinjorino de Banneux. Li trovis la preĝon en la retejo Maria de Nazareto.

En la jaro 1933 (15 januaro al 2 marto), la Virgulino Maria aperis ok fojoj al Mariette Beco, knabino de 11 jaroj. Nia Sinjorino diris al Mariette, 'Mi estas la Virgulino de la Malriĉuloj.'

In the Google group 'Brazilaj Katolikaj Esperantistoj', Vitor Luis Rigoti dos Anjos shared a prayer to Our Lady of Banneux which came from the web site Mary of Nazareth.

From 15 January to 2 March 1933, the Virgin Mary appeared eight times to Mariette Béco, an 11 year old girl. Our Lady identified herself to Mariette by saying, 'I am the Virgin of the Poor.

Prayer to Virgin of the Poor

Virgin of the Poor,
You came a long time ago,
To this wild and lonely place
And since you have never stopped coming,
You entreat each of us
You call to us on the path.

You smile at us without the need for words
You walk ahead of us
You lead us into the woods,
Where the wind whistles,
Where the Spirit flows,
Where water spouts from hidden lakes.

Virgin of the Poor, we say thank you
For coming time and again
To relieve our loneliness
And getting us back on the path,
Dispelling our doubts and our anguish,
And opening our hearts to the Beatitudes.

Virgin of the Poor,

And shout from the mire that imprisons us

Kiel mi ĉiam diris , Esperantujo estas tre tre plurala, ankaŭ ideologie. Bona ekzemplo: unu esperantisto jam voĉdonis en la primaraj balotoj, kaj ŝi elektis la ekspastoron Huckabee.

Mi iris por elekti --- A voting I did go

Hodiaŭ Mi iris al la urbeto Daggett, Miĉigano, por voĉdoni en la antaŭelektado. Ĉi tiu estas bildo de la voĉdonado loko. Krom ĉi tiu konstruaĵo, la urbo Daggett havas unu malgranda nutraĵvendejo, unu drinkejo, kaj unu preĝejo.

Mi estis balotanto nombro 44 por la tago. Mi voĉdonis favore al Mike Huckabee (ne granda surprizo). Mia panjo voĉdonis favore al John McCain.

Today I went to the town of Daggett, Michigan, to vote in the primary election. This is a picture of the voting place. In addition to this building, the town of Daggett has one small grocery store, one tavern, and one church.

I was voter number 44 for the day. I voted for Huckabee (no big surprise). My mom voted for John McCain.
